Tuna Garbanzo Spinach Salad

One year ago, I stared at my scale and the numbers 199.8 stared back at me. In that instant, that prolonged, silent-screaming, horrified instant, I had the terror-inducing realization that I was going to hit 200 pounds. As a female who stands at a mere 5’4″, that was just plain not good. I decided I was going to turn my life around. I started out jogging a block, biking five miles, and swimming a lap. I ended in September by finishing an Olympic-distance triathlon in Washington...

Giveaway: Illustrated Dictionary of Chemistry

UPDATE: THIS POST HAS BEEN UPDATED. We are hosting a monthly contest via our website and last month we had zero (zip!) entries. Weekly Wednesday #3

Weekly Thought I’m wavering between committing to another Team in Training event (Olympic triathlon or full marathon) and just doing a short 20k run. In searching for motivational quotes on marathons, I found this one: “You should run your first marathon for the right reasons, because you’ll never be the same person again. You must want to do it, not do it because your boss did it or your spouse did it.” ~Bill Wenmark, running coach Weekly Question For You I want to...

Snowflakes and Fires

Posted by on 24 Dec 2010 in life | 8 comments

I’m sitting on the couch, waiting for the kids to wake up, as a glowing light and crackles emanate from the living room fireplace. Snowflakes gently fall down to the world, waiting to kiss the frigid earth, outside of the window where I’m gazing as my hands warm around my Phantom of the Opera coffee mug. It’s highlander grogg, of course. It may be only Christmas Eve, but in our house we pleaded with Santa to please come a day early. I have to work tonight and I would...
