Why We Sell Usborne
Several years ago, I stood at a table during a festival and I looked down at a book that I thought my kids would really like. I purchased it. It was Hide-and-Seek Dragons and my children did love it.
In June 2009 I became a consultant after I realized that because of our homeschooling/afterschooling program, I would be using a lot of Usborne books. I was passionate about the books after my experience with them, but knew that I wanted to explore helping others spread literacy on a part-time basis. Therefore, I decided that all profits from the sales of our Usborne books would immediately go into a separate bank account to support our adoption and foster care efforts.
The first child to be helped from these funds is my own son, Nate. His step-father, my husband, would love to adopt him, but the legal fees are extensive. We’re happy to say that we now have the money to begin the proceedings (as of August 2011). The remainder of all profit earned will go into the fund to be used for future adoption and/or foster care efforts. This includes all extras such as legal fees for adoptions, extra activities (football, dance, etc.) for children placed with us via foster care, prom dresses, etc. We want to make sure that any child in our house has equal opportunity to have a childhood.
